I
began pursuing photography as a teenager, with nothing but a
Brownie in
hand. In 1980, thanks to a job that required me to take photos,
I stepped up to a Pentax, all-manual, 35 mm SLR.
Then came the
moment I decided I was truly a photographer: While reviewing a
proof sheet of photos for the cover of my organization’s annual
report, I spotted the shot at the end… the one I took to
finish the roll — a foggy image that revealed so much to
the careful observer.
The Waverly Park shot is still my favorite.
And, though I now
prefer to shoot color images, I never tire of looking at that
photo.
Water, soft light and close ups of people’s faces
remain my favorite subjects.
